The Cockney Me
Ascot - The Races
Things I've Learned from Being in a Play
Don’t judge a book by it’s cover … or a person by his/her appearance. The first time I met “Henry Higgins” I was shocked. He had long hair, earrings, and tattoos all over him. As rehearsals progressed I came to hear his talent as he spoke and sang in a superb English accent! Those who seem rough on the outside might surprise you. Never judge!
Never be afraid to be yourself… Other people will notice the goodness (or the grumpiness) that you radiate! Be sure to keep a smile and positive attitude all the time (or at least most of the time!).
Don’t worry about what other people think. You’ll be surprised with the friends you make by just being yourself.
Great things can be accomplished in very little time
A relativly small amount of sleep can create a grump who can still manage to act as if sleep was never an issue!
Always live in a way that shows other people what you value. Be happy and don’t allow negativity or complaint to have a part in your life. One night I was dreadfully tired and I really didn’t want to be at rehearsal. I made a comment to another cast member about it. The next day I felt really bad because I realized that I had brought him down when I should have been happy. It wasn’t a good feeling and I promised not to let it happen again.
An English cockney accent is extremely entertaining to invent! When those words came out of my mouth I almost surprised myself!
Friends come in all shapes, sizes, faces, religious backgrounds, ages, and costumes!! One thing I really got out of this play was an ability to mix and mingle with people in all different walks of life. From the quite old to the quite young we had them all! (And some of us even switch ages through out the course of the play!) We came together with one common purpose of putting on a show and having a chance to act. From seasoned stage veterans to newbies like myself, everyone had a role and a purpose, and some unlikely friendships came out of it in some unusual ways!
Always be open to and accept new ideas from others. What you might think would look “better” on stage is not always what would! Listening to directors even when I had other ideas in mind was difficult at times, but it wasn’t my show. It was our show!!
My favorite new nickname “Lamp Shade Girl” because of the awfully large hat I wore during the Ascot scene!
Evanston is one friendly place! The crowds were fantastic every night. And believe me, performing for a crowd is much more fun than just rehearsing/putting on the play for a blank wall! At the end of each show when we shook hands with people coming out of the auditorium I realized how many friends I have made in the last year and a half. What fun!

Lights, Camera, Action!
The play opens on Thursday. You're all invited! It runs Thursday, Friday, and Saturday this week and next so hurry over! It's going to be quite the show! We start dress rehearsals tomorrow with full costume and make-up. Wow! It's going to be a busy next couple of weeks but I am totally stoked!! My family will be here this weekend and Tyler's famiily is coming next weekend!! Break a leg!
Happy Halloween!!
These pictures were actually taken a week ago when we chaperoned the stake youth dance. The blue hair was pretty fun! Friday night we had chili and doughnuts with some friends and watched Arsenic and Old Lace. (aah, tradition!) If you haven't seen it, get it off Net Flicks or something! It's probably on You Tube too!! Hilarious and a bit spooky too. Saturday I didn't think about Halloween much at all. Tyler has been working on the program for the play all weekend. (He's still adding some finishing touches.) Needless to say it's been a huge time commitment but the final product is going to look great. Anyway, some other friends invited us over for dinner. We wore our t0shirts, but conveniently forgot to buy more blue hair spray. They were all dressed up like pirates and their little girl was a monkey!! Too cute! Our other friends came dressed up as Peruvian militia (military?). He served hi mission in Peru so it was fitting! We ate, played some games, and talked late into the night! It reminded me of some of the fun times we used to have in Rexburg. We didn't get many trick-o-treaters since we live in the apartments.
Speaking of living circumstances... Our house fell through. The contract ended yesterday and the seller decided to file bankruptcy. So, either it will turn up on the foreclosure list or we'll just keep looking. Most likely we'll wait until after the first of the year when things settle down a little bit!
